Sorry it has been a while since I posted our progress in life skills! However, here is a pictorial update on what we have been doing!
In our health unit, we have learned the basics of CPR and practiced on dummies to allow us to check for responsiveness, give compressions and "pretend" rescue breaths!
Thank you Mrs. Doosey for taking us to the Liberty Science Center! We had a great day of fun and exploration (and science of course!)
We took the public bus to the Menlo Park Mall! This was a great trip during the holiday times as we shopped for our loved ones (and ourselves), as well as explored sales, coupons, and department stores.
In preparation for an upcoming cooking activity, we needed to practice dry and wet measuring skills with real ingredients. We discovered that there is a difference based on the measuring cup that is used.
We hosted a sushi house (Sushi House 7). First, we ordered sushi in to try the rolls that we would be making. We created a shopping list and explored jobs that are within a restaurant. We shopped for the ingredients and prepared the sushi, to later turn into waiters, kitchen staff and managers to serve our sushi to the Highland Park community.
We adopted new class pets! Meet Beyonce and Solonge. They are guinea pigs, which we will take care of.
After doing a unit on over the counter vs. prescription drugs, we had Officer Joe visit us to show us what it would be like if we abused these medicines. Good thing we know how to use them properly!
We are part of a business club! We went to Kean University to role play interviewing skills for a bagger. We learned how to tie ties for the event, and huge congrats to one of our classmates for making it to states and competing in Atlantic City (and winning an award!)
Every once in a while we pretend to visit a doctor's office and role play the process, including medical papers and insurance cards! This way, we will be able to go to the doctor by ourselves, and check in!
After a unit on emergencies vs. minor problems, we visited the Highland Park Fire House and got a tour of both the fire house and even sat in the truck!
