One of the most important skills to daily living is the ability to cook, bake and follow a recipe! In preparation for Halloween, the students honed in on these skills to successfully make Worms and Dirt (also known as Oreo cookies, chocolate pudding and gummy worms!) To prepare for the experience, we studied various spooky recipes and examine their important aspects and commonalities. We did a thorough pre-reading of the recipe for comprehension, and then continued to research prospective prices of the ingredients for budgeting purposes. Together, we went shopping at Stop and Shop for the goodies (including the paper-ware) and studied the nutrition labels. We determined that although this recipe is not the healthiest, it sure is yummy! Finally, we spent a class utilizing our recipe reading skills and mixing our ingredients together for a wonderfully yummy outcome- worms and dirt! After eating out creepy creation, we had an unanimous class consensus that worms and dirt is very tasty! We concluded this unit with some follow-up activities and review to assure that our next baking experience will be another success!
